You mean late term abortions then, not early ones. I would think very few people are ok with late term abortions, but regardless, its still a piece of flesh leeching off the parent. Not much different than a tumor. I still would not find it the same as its a fully formed infant, detached from its mother, being thrown and it has to continue living with any injury it sustains, abortion at the very least kills the thing.

I would completely disagree with you on that. There are many great things in America or that came from it. But the US in the 19th century was based on slavery and extermination of the Native Americans, I dont call that progressive.
