the way we keep society and economy progressing is to improve healthcare, education, creativity, productivity, stability etc. therefore when we tax the rich more, as long as we invest this money efficiently to help create the environment where this progress is encouraged, the rich also benefit from this on the long run.
real industrialists – who produce goods for money – do understand this. finance and big oil, usually don’t.

it works this way… the wealthy make their money within the realm of american society, not isolated from it. american workers, scientists, engineers, teachers, policemen, firemen, secretaries etc. all contribute to make this economy and society prosper which in turn positively effects the rich.
the rich -collectively- benefit and evidently benefit more from having an educated, stable, industrious society where people are happy and productive. this is simply payback.
