So if you saw a woman being strangled by a man much bigger and stronger than she is and she was unable to fight back or defend herself, or even if she did defend herself and he just hurt her even more, you wouldn’t call the police or try to step in and help her? You would basically just stand there and laugh?
There’s no point. They won’t open up their minds because they are already closed. Some people just have low self-esteem and enjoy ripping others down.
It’s like Canary Diamond stated, they are probably just batterers themselves.
When women have been brutalized all their lives it can be difficult for them to connect to good things. I’ve volunteered in battered women’s shelters, have heard many individual stories and I can promise that none of these girls were in any way to blame. It’s unfortunate that some men can’t pull their heads out of their asses long enough to get that, but as I’ve come to understand as a domestic violence advocate for many years, many just enjoy blaming the victim to feel good about themselves.
I often see men equating “can’t get a date” with the “nice guy” thing and I can never quite buy into it. When the gas technician guy came over to my place and flirted with me and asked me out he kept making the same excuses: “Women don’t like me because I’m the nice guy, etc.” and I won’t badmouth him but I honestly had a hard time believing it. He wasn’t the best-looking guy and he seemed pretty obnoxious. Some red flags are subtle, others are more obvious…like in most of these comments.
